Afternoon

After having slowly gathered during the morning, we set about the first task, which was to break down a ZF 6-speed transmission. The gearset after it's out is shown here on the right. As adventurous as many of us are about pulling apart our LT-5's we decided that the ZF was a whole new level of intricacy. Definitly a treat to watch the experienced hands of Jon Baker sort it all out.

The pully rig at the lower right is what Jon used to hold the tail upright while pulling the gear set out of the case. If you use this method use a block and tacle with at deeper pulley groove.

Morning

All arrived Thursday morning ready to get to work on the LT-5's. There were two set up to be worked on. The one on the left is a 405 horsepower '93-'94 4-bolt block. On the right is a 375 horsepower '90-'92 2-bolt block. Note the distiguishing marks, the 4-bolt has a very evident cross hatch pattern on both the sides of the block and the heads. The 2- or 4- reffers to the number of bolts on on the crank supports. Also note the distict differences in the oil pan. The 4-bolt (left) has is only partially covered, wheras the 2-bolt (right) is covered by a full length baffle.

As you can see these are in two different states of construction. The 4-bolt on the left has the crank in and the heads on, but no head covers. The 2-bolt on the right is a bare shortblock without even a crank in it.

Afternoon

On the left here is the 4-bolt all together and on a test stand. It didn't run, but it was together!
